Don’t be afraid of removing your training wheels.
During lockdown my husband and I had the privilege of teaching our eldest son how to ride a bike without training wheels.
It really got me thinking about how learning new things is hard.
It’s scary
There are scrapes, bumps and falls.
There are tantrums.
There are methods that work and methods that are epic fails.
There are moments when you throw down that bike, throw down yourself on the floor and refuse to go on.
But the fascinating thing to watch is the natural resilience and determination of that young spirit -who feels all the things but picks themselves up anyway and gives it another go.
And before you know it, you are riding off down the street with no training wheels and not a care in the world.
It also reminds me of the episode of Bluey (a favourite show in our house) called “Bike” – at the park, Bluey is struggling to learn how to ride her bike, but as she watches her friends determination with their own tasks, Bluey is inspired to pick herself up, and give it another try. An inspiring message about the power of perseverance.
