A decade as a lawyer!!

And just like that I have been a lawyer for a whole decade.

I never imagined 10 years ago that I would be the owner of my very own law firm.

If I could go back in time, I would give that lonely and scared little girl in public housing a huge hug.

I would tell her, you will survive this.

Not only will you survive, but you will also thrive in spite of this.

The light past this darkness is blindingly bright.

The family violence will stop and you will break the intergenerational trauma for your children and their children.

You will be the maker of your own beautiful destiny.

One day you will smile more than you currently cry.

And most importantly you are worthy beyond words, so don’t believe anything they say.

If I could give any advice to someone studying law or wanting to pursue any big dream no matter how big or how small it is simply to “back yourself”.

I am sorry if you did not have the family or friendships that you deserved. I am sorry if people who were supposed to protect you, hurt you. I am sorry that you didn’t get the opportunities that others received. But I see you. I see that you are worthy. I see that you can do amazing things.

We are all gifted with unique talents and qualities. We are all placed on this earth to have our own unique journeys. It is our birth right to harness those skills and talents and to bring joy and happiness to the world with our unique skills.

So please don’t be afraid to chase those big beautiful dreams….. you might just be surprised at what you can achieve.

Training Wheels

Training Wheels

During lockdown, my husband and I had the privilege of teaching our eldest son how to ride a bike without training wheels.

It really got me thinking about how learning new things is hard.
